Jamboree Water Activities

One of the underlying themes of the Jamboree is to leave a long lasting effect upon the participants. As part of this, the Water Activities Team are undertaking a training program to get ten youth group leaders qualified as British Canoe Union UKCC Level 1 coaches. This nationally recognised qualification will allow the leaders, who give their time and efforts voluntarily, to run water activity sessions with their youth groups long after the Jamboree has finished.

This training course is being run by coach2o. This collection of highly qualified and professionally recognised coaches have agreed to train our leaders at a discounted rate in support of our cause.

The Jamboree is hosting 600 young people, which means we'll be runing four days of half day sessions; each session with 80 young people on the water. This will involve the ten newly qualified coaches, a number of supervising coaches and a whole team of bankside support - comprising a Water Activity Team of about 30 people.

At present, we have acquired the approval of the BCU, which also means that we are insured under the BCU's insurance policy. With the training programme in progress (we're currently recruiting potential coaches), and discussions with equipment suppliers underway, the water activites looks set to not only be an amazing activity at the Jamboree, but also provide a large number of youth groups with the permanent effect we were hoping for.
