Jamboree 2008

In 1907, Baden Powell ran an experimental camp on Brownsea Island in Pool Harbour. The camp was a great sucess and so afterwards Baden Powell spent a year formulating his ideas about the Scout movement.

A year later, Baden Powell ran the first ever official scout camp at Humshaugh in Northumberland. The growth of the scouting movement over the following century was staggering, but this was not the only result; the girl guides, the boys brigade and many other youth organisations prospered to create a bouyant and varied collection of youth groups.

To celebrate this, a collection of individuals from a number of different organisations are intending to hold a Jamboree in August 2008 which will be open to a number of the uniformed organisations which have grown within the scouting ideaology.

We are planning to hold this Jamboree in Northumberland, very close to the camp that Baden Powell hosted all those years ago.
